The Spring Interior Decorator
A very fine carved and gilt-wood rectangular overmantel mirror
French, 19th Century
198cm high, 132cm wide
One of the most timeless pieces of furniture from the 18th and 19th Centuries is the glass overmantel mirror and hence they remain in high demand. As many homes, regardless of contemporary renovations, retain their original mantelpieces, there is a need for mirrors such as this superb example. This mirror has fine carving and gilding, but is restrained enough to be adaptable to a modern lifestyle and could easily work at the end of a hallway or in a dressing room at eye level for stylish, yet decorative practicality.
